DEVELOPING SPECIFIC ENGLISH MATERIALS FOR SPA PROGRAM IN HARMONI INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE DENPASAR
Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui materi apa saja yang dibutuhkan untuk pembelajaran bahasa Inggris program spa di Sekolah Tinggi Harmoni; (2) mengembangkan materi bahasa Inggris khusus untuk Spa Program Harmoni International College; (3) mengetahui kualitas dari materi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang dikembangkan untuk program spa di Sekolah Tinggi Harmoni dari sudut pandang pengamatan para ahli, sudut pengamatan siswa dan sudut pengamatan pengguna jasa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian dan pengembangan yang dirancang oleh Sugiyono (2010). Langkah-langkahnya terdiri dari; (1) mengidentifikasi masalah, (2) mengumpulkan data, (3) merancang produk, (4) validasi produk yang dirancang, (5) merevisi produk yang dirancang, (6) pengujian produk dan (evaluasi produk). Masalah yang ditemukan di dalam penelitian ini adalah tidak adanya materi bahasa Inggris khusus yang mumpuni untuk Program Spa. Untuk mengembangkan bahan yang cocok beberapa data yang dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, kuesioner, analisis dokumen dan observasi. Produk ini dikembangkan berdasarkan hasil pengumpulan data. Sepuluh topik bahan dikembangkan berdasarkan data yang dikumpulkan. Mereka adalah: (l) Pengantar Spa. (2) Informasi Umum Pengobatan (3) Pengobatan Konsultasi. (4) Reservation. (5) Guest Check-In (6) Guest Check-Out. (7) Keluhan. (8) Urutan Services (9) Menulis CV dan Surat Lamaran (10) Wawancara Persiapan. Bahan-bahan materi ini berfokus pada pengembangan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Produk yang dihasilkan telah mengikuti kriteria materi ajar yang baik yang diusulkan oleh Tomlinson (1998) dan menggunakan desain material dari Hutchinson dan Waters (1987). Kualitas produk yang dihasilkan termasuk dalam kategori baik. Hal ini sesuai dengan penilaian yang diambil dari para ahli, mahasiswa, dan para pemangku kepentingan. Kategori baik tersebut ditunjukkan oleh koefisien 193,65 menggunakan rumus Candiasa (20l0). Selanjutnya, bahan ini dapat digunakan untuk mengembangkan keterampilan terapis berbicara spa untuk mencapai tujuan mereka dalam komunikasi.

This study is aimed at: (l) finding out what materials that are needed to be developed for Spa program in Harmoni International College; (2) developing specific English material for Spa Program of Harmoni International College; (3) knowing the quality of materials that are developed in Spa Program of Harmoni International College as perceived by the experts, students and stakeholders. This study applied Research and Development design proposed by Sugiyono (2010). The steps of this study include: (1) identifying problem, (2) collecting data, (3) designing the product, (4) validating product designed, (5) revising product designed, (6) testing the product, and (7) evaluating the product. The problem found in this study, is that, there is no specific English material that suitable to accommodate the teaching and learning process in Spa Program. To develop a suitable material, several data were collected through interview, questionnaire, document analysis, and observation. The product was developed based on data collection result. Ten topics of materials developed in this study, include: (l) Introduction to Spa. (2) General Treatment Information (3) Treatment Consultation. (4) Reservation. (5) Guest Check-In (6) Guest Check-Out. (7) Complaints. (8) Sequences of Services (9) Writing CV and Covering Letters (10) Interview Preparation. These materials focus on developing students’ speaking ability. The product of this study follows good criteria of teaching material which proposed by Tomlinson (1998) and the product was designed based on design from Hutchinson and Water's (1987). The quality of the product perceived by the expert judges, students, and stakeholders was in a good category. It is shown by the coefficient 193.65 using Candiasa’s (20l0) formula.
