STUDI KOMPARASI PENGARUH METODE DEBAT TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN BERDEBAT DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS KEPADA PARA SISWA SMA NEGERI 1 MENGWI DITINJAU DARI MOTIVASI BERPRESTASI
Abstract
ABSTRAK
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode debat ditinjau dari motivasi berprestasi terhadap kemampuan berdebat dalam Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimen semu dengan menggunakan rancangan The Posttest-Only Control Group Design. Sampel penelitian diambil secara acak. Pengumpulan data menggunakan tes kinerja dan kuesioner. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif inferensial. Pengujian hipotesis menggunakan analisis varian (anava) dua jalur dan uji Tukey.
Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan secara umum pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode debat Krieger lebih baik dibandingkan dengan metode debat Kontroversi. Metode debat Krieger juga lebih baik diterapkan kepada siswa yang memiliki motivasi berprestasi lebih tinggi namun metode debat Kontroversi cocok diterapkan pada siswa yang memiliki motivasi berprestasi rendah. Sebelum menerapkan metode debat, disarankan guru mengidentifikasi motivasi berprestasi siswa.

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF DEBATE METHOD
UPON ENGLISH DEBATING ABILITY OF THE STUDENTS OF
SMA NEGERI 1 MENGWI
BY CONSIDERING ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION
ABSTRACT
The objective of the research was to investigate the effect of debate methods upon debating ability by considering students’ achievement motivation. The research was an experiment with the posttest-only control group design. Sample was selected randomly. Data were collected by using performance test and questionnaire. Data were analyzed statistically using descriptive and inferential analysis. The two way ANOVA and Tukey test were conducted to test the hypothesis.
The research found that generally learning using Krieger debate method was better than Controversy debate method. Furthermore, Krieger debate method was better implemented to students’ high achievement motivation. Nevertheless, Controversy debate method was appropriately implemented to students’ low achievement motivation. Before implementing debate method, teacher should identify students’ achievement motivation.
