Developing Syllabus And Instructional Materials For Reading 1 Course In English Education Department of Ganesha University of Education.
Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan silabus dan materi pembelajaran buku reading 1 untuk mahasiswa semester 2 di Fakultas Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha Singaraja. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development) yang diadaptasi dari model oleh Sugiyono (2010) dan berdasarkan kriteria materi pembelajaran yang baik oleh Tomlinson (1998). Model Pengembangan ini terdiri dari 7 langkah yaitu, (1) mengidentifikasi masalah, (2) mengumpulkan data, (3) mendesain produk, (4) validasi desain, (5) merevisi desain, (6) Produk (7) mengadakan uji lapangan. Karena keterbatasan waktu dan keuangan, penelitian ini hanya dilakukan sampai tahap pembuatan produk. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah dosen yang sudah mengajar mata kuliah Reading 1 di Fakultas Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Dan objek dari dari penelitian ini adalah silabus Reading 1 dan materi pembelajaran yang digunakan untuk mengajar pada mata kuliah Reading 1. Penelitian sebelumnya dilakukan oleh kelompok dari projek penelitian dan data yang diperoleh dari kuisioner, analisis dokumen dan FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Peneliti melakukan penelitian ini berdasarkan data yang diperoleh dari peneliti sebelumnya dan beberapa instrument yaitu, kuisoner untuk mengembangkan silabus, kuisioner untuk mengembangkan materi dan ceklist untuk mengetahui kualitas dari materi yang dikembangkan dilihat dari kesesuaian dalam teks dan teks dapat dibaca. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah pengembangan silabus yang dirancang dengan judul “Pengembangan Silabus Berbasis Kompetensi dan Sistem Penilaian”, dan materi pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan karakteristik pelajar dewasa serta sesuai dengan apa yang diperlukan oleh pelajar semester 2 yang mendapatkan mata kuliah Reading 1. Mengetahui kualitas materi pembelajaran yang sudah dikembangkan dengan menggunakan kuisioner yang deberikan kepada dua ahli dalam bidang reading. Hasil dari kedua ahli mengatakan bahwa semua kriteria berkaitan dan peneliti menggunakan rumus yang diadopsi dari, Gregory (2000), yang diketahui bahwa materi pembelajaran yang dikembangkan bisa dikategorikan memiliki validitas yang sangat tinggi. Karena ada beberapa keterbatasan, penelitian ini hanya sampai produk, dan penelitian ini akan diadakan kembali untuk menguji silabus dan materi pembelajaran.

This study used amodel ofresearchanddevelopment, which is adaptedfromthe modelbySugiyono(2010) andbasedon the criteriaof good materialbyTomlinson(1998). Development Modelconsistedof7steps, namely, (1) problems, (2) data collection, (3) product design, (4) design validation, (5) design revision, (6) Prototype, (7) conductingfield tests. Due to the limitation of time and financial, this research was only carried out until the prototype step. The subject of this study was the lectures who have taught Reading 1 course in English Education Department and the object of this study were the syllabus of Reading 1 course and Instructional material used for teaching Reading 1 course. A Preliminary research was conducted by another team member of the research project and the data were in the form of questionnaire, checklist, document analysis, and focus group discussion (FGD). The researcher conducted this research based on the data that have been acquired from the preliminary research and some instruments such as, checklist to develop syllabus, checklist to develop instructional materials, checklist to know the quality of the developed instructional materials viewed from appropriateness and readability of the texts. Results of this research eas the development of syllabus designed by titles “Competency – Based Syllabus Development and Assessment and System” and instructional materials were appropriate for characteristics of adult learners and as required by the second semester students who receive Reading 1 course. Knowing the quality of the developed instructional materials by using the checklist submitted to two expert judges. The results from both of expert judges stated that all criteria were relevance then the researcher used the formula adapted from, Gregory (2000). It was known that the instructional materials could be categorized as very high validity. In other words, the materials were consistently relevance and of high quality in term of coverage and materials. Since there were some limitations of this study, this research was on ly carried out until prototype step, and this research will be held again to examine the syllabus and instructional materials.
