The Existence of a Computer Laboratory Management

(A Case Study at SMP Negeri 2 Kediri, District area of Kediri, Tabanan Regency)

The study was conducted to analyze some important aspects of the computer laboratory facilities at SMP Negeri 2 Kediri, Tabanan, like its’ procurement, the exploitation, as well as the maintenance. It was a qualitative type of study (a case study), because it aimed at describing a case in detail about the related aspects of a computer laboratory management which was used to support the process of learning at the school. The study mainly put greater emphasis on the explorative characteristics than other aspects in order to maintain the entire aspects of the objects of study. The whole data were obtained from observation, interview, questionnaires as well as document records.

The findings indicated that the school could manage the procurement of the facilities in stages. Both the local and the central government could provide the grant aid either direct or indirectly in terms of de-concentrated fund realized through the proposed project and its verified proposal. The computer facilities procurement could as well be attempted through the school committee fund by setting the appropriate in stages annual budgeting programs. The computer laboratories could merely facilitate the students in the process of learning the relevant subject, like information technology and communication. In addition, the teachers could make use of these facilities to improve their knowledge in the context of ICT and supplement the sets of learning equipments. The computer laboratory equipment maintenance program had been developed in terms of School Development Planning involving general planning, process and output obtained from the maintenance activities.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji aspek pengadaan, penggunaan, dan pemeliharaan peralatan laboratorium komputer di SMP Negeri 2 Kediri Tabanan. Penelitian ini digolongkan ke dalam penelitian kualitatif tipe studi kasus (case study), karena penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan sebuah kasus, yakni eksistensi penggunaan laboratorium komputer dalam menunjang proses pembelajaran di SMP Negeri 2 Kediri di Kecamatan Kediri, Kabupaten Tabanan. Sebagai penelitian kasus, penelitian ini lebih ditekankan pada sifat ekploratif, sehingga diupayakan untuk mempertahankan keutuhan dari objek yang diteliti. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi atau pengamatan, wawancara, angket, dan pencatatan dokumen (studi dokumen).

Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa pengadaan peralatan komputer secara bertahap dapat dipenuhi oleh sekolah. Pemerintah daerah atau pusat memberikan bantuan dana, baik langsung maupun berupa dana dekonsentrasi yang direalisasi melalui proposal dan verivikasi proposal. Pengadaan komputer juga diupayakan melalui dana komite (sekolah) yang dilaksanakan dengan cara menganggarkannya melalui Rencana Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Sekolah (RAPBS) secara bertahap setiap tahun. Penggunaan laboratorium komputer semata-mata untuk pembelajaran mata pelajaran Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi bagi siswa. Selain itu, laboratorium komputer digunakan oleh guru untuk menambah wawasan keilmuan tentang komputer dalam konteks pembelajaran dengan ICT. Guru juga memanfaatkan laboratorium ini untuk melengkapi perangkat pembelajaran. Program pemeliharaan peralatan laboratorium komputer telah tertuang dalam Rencana Pengembangan Sekolah (RPS) secara umum menyangkut perencanaan, proses dan hasil yang didapatkan dari pemeliharaan tersebut.
